Welcoming our second intern for Spring 2020, Maria Prieto Dernbach
Joining our German team until Easter is Maria Prieto Dernbach, who is in the final year of a BA in Translation Studies at the University of Heidelberg in her home town.
Maria speaks a number of languages in addition to her native German. She has dual German/Spanish nationality, giving her two second languages, both English and Spanish; she also speaks some French, and is currently learning Portuguese and Russian. A true linguist.
Before going to university, Maria took a gap year to gain some work experience and travel across Europe, spending some time in Madrid connecting with her Spanish roots.
In her spare time, Maria loves to cook, especially Mexican and Middle Eastern cuisine, and is looking forward to sampling some Cornish seafood while she’s with us. She loves spending time outdoors and enjoys playing all kinds of sports, particularly basketball. Maria’s also a talented musician who plays the violin and has taught herself the piano, which has become one of her favourite pastimes.
Once the Cornish weather permits, Maria can’t wait to get out and explore Cornwall, to see the sights and visit our stately homes and castles. She’s also keen to get out and to do some hiking along the spectacular South West Coast Path.
