Translation internship: French Masters student Gaëlle joins AJT
Joining us from Lanester on the west coast of Brittany in north west France, Gaëlle arrives with a BA in Applied Languages from the University of Nantes, and is currently in the second year of a European MA in Specialised Translation at Grenoble Alps University.
She’ll be here with us at AJT for six months throughout the summer and is keen to extend her existing skills and gain additional real-life translation and proofreading experience. Her previous internships have seen her working closely with project management teams; now she’s looking to build on this and develop her creative translation skills.
Having loved languages since she was child, a pivotal moment for Gaëlle came at high school when she took part in an exchange programme, heading off, at the age of 17, to the other side of the world to spend a year living the life of a Japanese student in Nagoya, Japan. Quite simply a life-changing experience, Gaëlle learned the true importance of communication, respect for other cultures, and how good translation (and good translators) can facilitate intercultural relationships.
Coming from the Atlantic coast of France where good surfing waves are plentiful, it’s no surprise to learn that Gaëlle loves to bodyboard: a summer in Newquay will certainly provide plenty of opportunity to hit the waves and enjoy Newquay’s surfing scene with the rest of Team AJT!
