Here at AJT, we love living and working in Newquay, a wonderful Cornish coastal town, and we’re very keen on spreading the word about this great place. So when the Newquay Business Improvement District (BID), a local not-for-profit organisation aiming to promote a vibrant, attractive and well managed town for customers, employees and businesses, approached us about a project to promote Newquay to the German market, we jumped at the chance to be involved.
With the aim of marketing the town as a holiday destination to domestic and international visitors, Newquay BID wanted to invite journalists from Germany so they could experience the town first hand and write engaging articles for the German press, in turn inspiring more tourists to visit Newquay. The idea was to send an invitation letter and a translated version of their popular print magazine Seven – a free lifestyle publication promoting Newquay and its businesses – to a handful of carefully selected journalists in Germany.
Newquay BID didn’t have the budget to cover the cost of translation, so we decided to provide the translation on a voluntary basis. Our translation intern Caro, a final-year student of translation studies from the University of Heidelberg, translated the texts beautifully and her translation was then proofread and checked by our professional translators. It was a perfect project for Caro: she had the opportunity to work on a ‘real-life’ translation project whilst at the same time learning about the wonderful things that Newquay has to offer. As a company, it was a great way to give something back to the town we love.
We have recently collaborated on a new project promoting Newquay to German markets and cannot recommend Anja Jones Translation highly enough. The service was very quick, responsive and of an excellent quality. They understand the needs of our business and of the town and are clearly passionate not only about Newquay, but about delivering a world-class translation service every time.
