We are big believers in nurturing young language talent to help shape the next generation of professional translators. If you have just graduated from your translation degree and are looking for an entry-level translator position at a reputable company,  then an in-house positions as a junior translator could be just the thing for you.

Would you like to join a small team of passionate linguists and gain your first experiences in a supportive and collaborative environment? Do you like the idea of working from our seaside office in Cornwall, England, translating during the day and enjoying the beach life after work?

We have been employing translation graduates since 2014. After working at AJT, our translators typically move on to in-house positions at other companies, or transition into freelance life. In fact, the majority of our previous employees still work closely with us as trusted freelance translators today.

About our graduate scheme

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for talented translation graduates with either a BA or an MA degree in translation to join our in-house team at our Newquay office in Cornwall, England. Our positions are ideally suited to recent graduates looking for experience as in-house translators. You will be working alongside a team of translators and project managers and be responsible for translating a wide variety of written documentation.

What are the minimum requirements?

  • Native speaker of either German (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) or French (France)
  • Excellent oral and written English language skills
  • A Bachelor or Masters degree in translation studies
  • Willingness to relocate to Cornwall for the duration of the contract

Job description

  • Job title: Junior translator
  • Location: Newquay, Cornwall
  • Starting salary: £18,000 per annum
  • Duration: 12 month contract
  • Working hours: 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, including one hour unpaid lunch break

What is our ideal candidate like?

Our ideal candidate shares our passion for languages and culture, and our commitment to delivering high-quality translations to our customers.

We are looking for translators who can write beautifully, who have the ability to read through material and translate it into their native language in a way that sounds natural, while retaining the main message of the source text. A flair for creative translation is a definite plus.

Other personal qualities we appreciate include a positive attitude towards work, the ability to adapt quickly, and a general thirst to learn new things.

This should allow us enough time to prepare ourselves for any changes that may lie ahead. If you are eligible for our in-house graduate scheme, the first step in the application process is a test translation. If your test translation meets our minimum quality criteria, you will then be invited for an interview which will held via video call.
